Connie's been back from her week-long stay at the Hippocrates Institute for 6 weeks now and we've been incorporating a number of things that she learned there into our daily diet and lifestyle. We thought we'd give you an update on what that has been doing for us.
Join us to hear more.
The bottom line is that we're both noticing an uptick in energy and clarity. Connie refers to it as having a stronger inner core. And that's the inner core both in her physical body, as a result of her increasing the weights in her exercise program, and the inner core in the mental and spiritual aspect of her life.
She's not only feeling the muscles of her physical core for the first time, but also a stronger relationship with her connection to life itself. That shows up in her greater clarity and interest in exploring more of what is possible for her to experience of the potential she has to contribute to life.
Bill feels more clarity and energy as well, and reflects that the primary changes they've been making is the amount of raw that they eat each day, Hippocrates suggests 80% raw, the large quantities of sprouts in their meals, usually 5 different types each day, and the 16 ounces of fresh green juice daily.
All in all, it's been a great demonstration of the potential our bodies have to regenerate at any age. Both of us feel like this is the best it's ever felt.
And we want to point out that we aren't suggesting that the Hippocrates diet and lifestyle is what everyone should do. We still adhere to our mantra: "listen to your body". Our own inner intelligence is the best guide for what we need to do to be the healthiest we can be.
So, the way we see it, rather than us pouring ourselves into the Hippocrates diet and lifestyle as a formula for "the best" health, we're testing the protocol and listening to how it is supporting our health and well-being. From that, we decide what we want to do each day for our best experience.
Hippocrates offers some rather radical ideas to the field of health that we seem to be ready to benefit from. It doesn't mean it's the answer everyone is looking for. We all need to find what is most beneficial for us, given where we are in our own evolution.
Listen to your body. Enjoy Life.
The recipe this week is a Slaw Wrap Meal. We made a vegetable slaw and used it to stuff a wrap, topping it with sprouts. We than used the extra slaw on a bed of greens to make it into a complete meal. And this is a 100% raw meal. Give it a try and let us know what you think.
To your Amazing Health,
Connie and Bill

Slaw Wrap Meal
Slaw:
- 2 medium carrots, cut in chunks
- 1 golden or red medium beet, cut in pieces
- 1 salad turnip, cut in quarters
- 1 Jalapeño, seeded
- 1 orange or colored pepper, cut in chunks
- ¼ cup mung or lentil sprouts
- ¼ cup Pear Dressing from our website
Put everything but sprouts and dressing in a food processor and pulse until cut fine.
Add sprouts and dressing and pulse to well-mixed.
Add finished product to wrap and use leftover on a big salad with more Pear Dressing.
Carrot Cumin Wrap: (adapted from Melissa Maris)
- 3 cups of chopped carrot (330g/11.6oz)
- 1 large sweet onion (430g/15oz)
- 1 large chunk of ginger (20g/0.7oz)
- ½ cup of oil-free raisins
- 3 cloves of garlic
- 2 tablespoons tahini
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1 tsp curry powder
- ¼ teaspoon turmeric
- ½ teaspoon garam masala
- ½ teaspoon cumin
- 2 cups water
- 2 tablespoons freshly ground chia seeds (20g/0.7oz)
- 2 tablespoons psyllium husk powder (25g/0.88oz)
For best results, weigh the ingredients.
Add all ingredients but the chia and psyllium to a blender and blend on high.
Add the ground chia and psyllium and run on high for just 3 seconds to thoroughly combine it.
Pour half of the liquid into each of two 14” x 14’ silicone trays with a ¼” lip and level out with an offset spatula. Here’s a link to a short YouTube video of Lissa making one.
Put in your dehydrator and dehydrate for around 12 hours, until they firm up. If you can push your finger in the middle and it still dents a little, it needs more time.
NOTE: We make our ground chia and psyllium husk powder by adding the 2 tablespoons of each to a coffee grinder and grinding for around 15 seconds, until it is a fine powder.
